Curriculum

Early childhood is an important developmental stage in every child’s life. The preschool program at Queen of Heaven School is designed to accommodate the needs of children who have turned four years old before December 1st of the current year.

We offer a full day 4 year old program that runs 8:15-2:15. Our Before and After School Programs will also be available for preschool students.

The curriculum includes reading and math readiness, religion, art, music, science, physical education, computer technolohy and Spanish. The overall goal of the program is to build a foundation for lifelong learning and achievement of the Common Core Learning Standards. Each child is encouraged to gain independence while adjusting to a regular school routine. The children interact with other grade levels and participate in school concerts and activities.

Queen of Heaven provides a strong high school preparatory education for its students. It follows the Common Core prescribed by the New York State Education Department and the Diocese of Buffalo. In addition to the core subjects of religion, reading, English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, students receive instruction in art, music, computer technology, library, Spanish and physical education. New York State assessments are administered in grades 4, 5 and 8. Standardized tests are given to students in grades 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 each year.

Religion is taught each day to all grade levels. Each Thursday morning, the school community gathers for Mass. Service projects are an integral part of school life as well as religious experiences such as prayer services and various devotional practices.

Students in grades Pre-K through 8 participate in weekly special classes as Queen of Heaven School. These classes offer enrichment to the Common Core Curriculum. Special subject teachers often provide students with a cross curricular learning experience to expand on classroom learning.
